You can store them right in the bag you bought them for about one month in the refrigerator. You can also wash, dry and store fresh cranberries for up to two months in a tightly-sealed plastic bag or container in the refrigerator. As with all berries, if one starts getting soft, it will quickly spread to the rest. Be sure to sort out the softies if you plan on storing them for any length of time.

HOW DO I FREEZE FRESH CRANBERRIES?

You can freeze them in the bag you bought them in for one year.

HOW DO I THAW FROZEN CRANBERRIES?

Frozen cranberries need not be defrosted before using.

Sweetened dried cranberries should be stored in a cool dry, place such as a cupboard and consumed before the date on the bag. DO NOT put them in the refrigerator.

CAN I SUBSTITUTE SWEETENED DRIED CRANBERRIES IN RECIPES THAT CALL FOR FRESH CRANBERRIES?

Yes, sweetened dried cranberries work well in most baked goods; however there is a ¼ cup difference in measurement. If a recipe calls for one cup of fresh or frozen cranberries, use ¾ cup of sweetened dried cranberries.

HOW MANY CUPS OF FRESH CRANBERRIES ARE IN A TYPICAL BAG?

One 12-ounce bag of fresh cranberries will yield about 3 cups whole or 2-1/2 cups chopped.

Reconstitute dried cranberries by soaking them in hot water for 15 to 20 minutes.

FOR HOW LONG SHOULD I COOK FRESH CRANBERRIES?

Cranberries should be cooked only until they pop. Otherwise, they not only begin to turn to mush, but they also turn bitter.

HOW CAN I USE LESS SUGAR IN MY CRANBERRY SAUCE?

To help neutralize the acid, add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda when cooking cranberries. You'll find you will need less sugar.

CAN I USE A FOOD PROCESSOR TO CHOP CRANBERRIES?

Yes, cranberries are easily chopped by pulsing in a food processor.

HOW DO I KEEP CRANBERRIES FROM SINKING IN MY BAKED GOODS?

Cranberries are naturally gluten free. Our Decas Farms Paradise Meadow® cranberries are packaged in a facility that also handles wheat, however, there are multiple rigorous cleanings of the equipment between runs and the equipment is kept in a designated separate area and does not run wheat products.  The cranberries test gluten-free.
