Ingredients

  • 1 large orange
  • Water
  • 3/4 to 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1 12-ounce package fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons Grand Marnier liqueur, optional

Instructions

  1. Coarsely grate orange rind.
  2. Squeeze the juice from the orange into a liquid measuring cup. Add enough water to make 1 cup.
  3. Combine the juice in a saucepan with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon and orange rind.  Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar.
  4. Add cranberries.  Boil gently about 10 minutes or until cranberries pop, stirring occasionally.
  5. Cool; add Grand Marnier, if desired.  Refrigerate until serving time.

Makes 2 1/2 cups.

Note:  This Classic Cranberry Sauce recipe was submitted by #cranfan, Sara B.  of Oklahoma City, OK. She suggests you use 3/4 cup sugar if you like it a little tart or 1 cup for sweeter sauce.  Leave the stick cinnamon in until serving time for extra flavor. She recommends this sauce with ham as well as turkey.
